How to Create the Perfect Guest Bedroom.

Visiting family and friends has been something that we took for granted. The pandemic, which saw us all confined to our homes with our immediate family, or on our own, meant that the only access we had to family, friends and loved ones was via texting, calling or zoom. In the time that we have had limited access to these people, it has made us appreciate human interaction more than ever- socialising, whether that’s going to a bar or restaurant, event or simply hanging out at someone’s house- has been sorely missed. Now that pandemic restrictions have lifted, and we are able to socialise- there has never been more excitement. To make the most of our time spent with loved ones, the implementation of guest bedrooms on your property can make spending time with loved ones a lot more enjoyable and comfortable.

There are two things to question when preparing a guest room: is this room the same standard as a hotel room? And more importantly, would you stay there? You want your guests to feel as comfortable as possible, and have everything they need in a clean, welcoming room. Even if you don’t have a huge budget, there are things you can do to ensure your visitors feel welcome. Guest bedrooms are also a great addition to have in your home as they can actually add value to your property, especially if the bedroom is in a converted garage or basement. So, if you’re wondering “how can I sell my house fast?”, perhaps creating a guest bedroom is the perfect idea- and we’ve compiled our top tricks and advice to help.

The Essentials:

If you’re not wanting to go all out furnishing the room, or your budget is tight, then it’s vital then you at least put the essentials in your guest bedroom. This should include a bed, dresser, bedside table and light.

A Comfortable Bed:

Don’t be tempted to give your guests the oldest, thinnest mattress you have. A comfortable bed can change everything. Having a good night’s sleep can completely impact your mood for the day- so investing in a comfortable mattress is key.

Fresh/ Upgraded Bedding:

Clean and fresh bedding is an absolute must when preparing a guest bedroom. Consider adding luxurious bed linens and good quality supplies such as mattress toppers, pillows, comforters and throws. Ensure to have spare linens in the bedroom as you don’t want your guests to be left without spare sheets in case of an accident.

Simple Décor:

So that your guest room suits the taste of everyone, simple décor is a must. Although the bedroom is in your house, extravagant or busy decoration may only remind the individual that they are in an unfamiliar space. Keep personal sentiments to a minimum and opt for a minimalist theme to keep the room looking fresh and clean.

Think about adding a water carafe to add a touch of elegance and care to the room. Faux flowers are ideal because they never have to be replaced and candles to ensure the room looks and feels cosier.

Include a Comfy Desk/Chair:

A desk is always handy in your bedroom. It’s a space to do a little bit of work, use as a dresser, or just as extra storage. Most guests will appreciate having a space to lay out their belongings. A comfy chair is also a great addition, as it’s an extra space in which your guests can relax and provides an alternative to a bed.

“Welcome Home” Package:

Creating a little welcome bundle is a great way to instantly make your guests feel at ease and more importantly, at home. Grab a wicker basket, add a few snacks, teabags and drinks for them to enjoy once they’ve settled into their room. You could also add a basket that has basic toiletries such as toothpaste, shampoos and conditioners in case your guests have forgotten theirs.

On the bed, leave some fresh towels for your guests. There’s nothing better than walking into a guest room and seeing a pile of warm, fresh, fluffy towels.

Important Info:

These days, no one can live without Wi-Fi. Make their life easier, and avoid the awkward conversation of having them ask for the details by taping the Wi-Fi username and password to an easily visible spot, such as on top of a desk or mirror.

Empty Wardrobes/ Hangers:

Instead of living out of a suitcase, give your guests the option of storing their belongings in a wardrobe. Ensure to clean the inside of a wardrobe and add a few hangers in case they have brought items that specifically need hanging.
